Autumn is ending here

Autumn is ending here; nearby,
the numb park I regularly walk in
is still green on the side of tall pine trees.
Our house is on the Azad—free—road,
it’s free and one way!
Azadi, freedom, is sometimes a number on a plaque.
My neighbor calls her tabby by her first name,
and her husband by his last.
I turn the tap fully on. Sylvia Plath
must have been fearless to the bone!
I’ve discovered a new recipe for baking bread
with fragrant pine nuts:
here’s a pinch of wild yeast to my piñon sourdough.
I still have faith in rising;
I shall try fresher flavors
