Submission Guidelines for Writers

Poetry Northwest is published semi-annually in March and October. We welcome your submissions. Please submit no more than four poems at a time (and please do not send revisions before hearing back from the editors). We understand that getting a decision quickly is important, and our goal is to respond to unsolicited submissions in 4-8 weeks (except during June, July, and August—submissions sent during these months will be considered in September). We consider all submissions and inquiries regarding submissions by U.S. Mail only. All manuscripts must be accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope (SASE). Please put your return address on the outside of the envelope. Manuscripts should have the author's name and address on every page. We cannot consider anything that has been previously published or accepted for publication in any form, including work that has appeared online. Format requirements: typed, single-spaced, on 8.5x11 white paper. We are not able to return submissions with individual criticism. All submissions must be in English. We are pleased to consider translations (please submit original, as well). We do not consider simultaneous submissions. Please query first before submitting any prose. Query by U.S. Mail with a stamped, self-addressed envelope (SASE). Writers living abroad: Please enclose a self-addressed envelope (SASE), plus enough postage in validated international reply coupons for air mail return. Please make any inquiries about manuscripts by U.S. Mail and include a stamped, self-addressed envelope (SASE) for our reply. Poetry Northwest holds first serial rights for material that we publish and to reprint that material in later forms, including online. The copyright automatically reverts to the author upon first publication. We do not require that material be copyrighted prior to submission.
